Mark G. Richardson’s 10 Tips on Getting Advice
- Get a coach or an advisor. Have a meeting with them every 2-4 weeks. Use them as a way to bounce ideas off of or ask questions in what they are seeing within the business or industry.
- Reach out to friends with successful businesses. Don’t hesitate to seek advice from someone who is outside of the remodeling industry.
- Start to read. Make it a point to read, listen to a new podcast or audio book for 30-40 minutes a week.
- Think about joining a local association. You can get really good advice from hearing what others think about the industry.
- Join a forum or a group. They can look behind the currents of your business. It creates accountability for your own actions.
- Cutting and slicing your numbers.
- Get advice from your clients. Host a dinner or have a one-on-one lunch to get advice from the other side and hear what they have to say about your business.
- Form an advisory board. You don’t need to be a very big company to have an advisory board. Do some research on this subject. Start small and simple and try to host a meeting 3 times a year.
- Talk to your family. Having regular dialog about your business with your family is very healthy. They know you the best and can give you advice that others might not see on a regular basis.
- Get advice from yourself. You are a product of what you do, not what you think about. Carve out some time, maybe 2 times a week to give yourself some advice. This can be a time to reflect and ask yourself really good questions. Am I on track? Am I helping someone today?
