This week brought the news that smartphone sales have fallen in 2018, reminding us of 2011 when laptop sales peaked. This news also signifies that we are transcending the mobile web to a world filled with AI, smart speakers, Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality.
Contractors watching this trend have to prepare for ways that consumers find them using smart speakers. 2019 will be the year when tools for Augmented Reality will mature – Google’s ARcore, Microsoft’s Magic Leap, and Facebook’s Oculus Rift will no longer be for gaming applications but will have real-world adaptation.
Google, in particular, is focused on bringing several applications for contractors to persuade homeowners when they present their project and shorten the sales process:
- Plane detection technology
- Where the texture of the wall is detected
- Placing objects on walls to visually represent a remodeling project
- Using models to show homeowners new shingles and roof measurements
Contractors who are early adopters of technology and follow homeowner trends closely will appreciate Surefire Local’s upcoming webinar. We invited Noble Ackerson, a Developer expert from Google, to speak on Tuesday, January 22 at 4 p.m for a discussion on the application of AR/VR and Big Data for Contractors.
