So you’ve watched our ‘Are You Fit to Grow’ webinar, filled out your scorecard and added up your business fitness quotient. What’s next?
If you’re one of the lucky (= hardworking!) business owners who scored 85 or higher, congratulations! Your business is healthy and already ideally placed for growth over the next few months. Your task is to stay the course and keep the ball rolling.
If you’re one of the many who have plenty of room for improvement, take heart. The fact that you took the time to do a fitness check already puts you on the right track to a better, healthier business. Below are some tips from Mark G. Richardson that will help up your fitness quotient before your next checkup.
- Numbers. If you haven’t already, start tracking your numbers as they happen.
- Systems/processes. Encourage water cooler talks about “the way we do things around here.”
- Leadership. Schedule lunch with your leadership team. A couple hours can go a long way toward improving your synergy.
- Team. Invest in ongoing training and multiskilling.
- Product. Be proactive about asking your customers what they think of your products and services.
- Profitability. Review your key cost areas more frequently: your suppliers, your finance facilities, your premises, your production.
- Stress. Look into automating smaller tasks.
- Reputation. Stop ignoring negative reviews. Your response to bad press matters.
- Positioning. Make sure every member of your team knows your brand positioning statement by heart…and walks the talk.
- Relationships. Make touching base with your vendors and business peers part of your routine. Treat them like people, not just business assets you call when you need them.
